Q:“My domain registrar doesn't let me set up CNAMEs, but it does offer frameset or redirect options; can I use these with my Magnify site?”
Some domain registration and hosting services will let you point visitors to your custom domain name over to another web address using either a frameset or a redirect.
You can use these types of services to bring people to your Magnify.net channel, but if you use this approach, do not enter the address in the "Custom Domain Alias" field.
Frameset Redirect is not a recomended method for masking a URL for the following reasons:
1. Use of a Frameset can complicate browser navigation and bookmarking, for example when users click through to a particular video, their web browser will continue to display the URL for the homepage. Bookmarks and shared links will not redirect to the page that they were looking for.
2. Internet Explorer may not accept cookies inside a frameset at some security level settings, which may prevent users from logging in to your site.
3. This method provides very poor search enginer optimization, for example if you have masked yoursite.magnify.net to video.yoursite.com, search engines will only index the magnify.net addresses and search engines will see the video.yoursite.com as having no content.
