“Rapidly our site became a reference in both offline and online media.”

Q. What did you want to achieve with Second Life Video?
We wanted to provide a research hub for ourselves and others interested in studying the rapid growth of machinima film, especially videos emanating from the Second Life metaverse.
Q.What has been the biggest surprise?
There were a number of surprises. For example, one machinima piece we produced was placed on the Second Life Video site and the same piece on YouTube using similar optimization efforts. One would reasonably expect YouTube to knock it out of the water, however within a week YouTube had garnered about 110 plays, while the same video on the Magnify.net site clocked in at over 1200 plays and more reviews.
Q: How difficult was it to use the platform?
The platform was extremely easy to use. Anyone with the most basic web skills can do it.
Q.You're an experienced developer. Why not just build it?
We wanted to focus our time on the contours and textures of the output rather than aggregation, and not on creating and maintaining a complex system. We have often found that collaboration is the best way to move online.
Q. How would you advise folks who need a video solution?
Flexibility is important. Magnify.net is flexible and extensible.
