“Thanks to Magnify, we have new medium on the web for all groups to build community.”
Sr Margaret Kerry, fsp, Site Administrator
- Q. What is the mission of your site?
- The community that I follow online is dedicated to deepening an
understanding of the media in today's world -- as communication, in media
literacy, as a means to tell a story. Media as a gift of God and our gratitude
for this great gift --how to unwrap it (media literacy) and share it
(story) -- My blog connects to magnify as an essential component of our
community. I hope it will grow in time.
- Q. How did you first learn about Magnify.net?
- We received information from the e-zine "Always On". Steve Rosenbaum
wrote an article in a particular issue and I found out about Magnify
through that article.
- Q. How has Magnify helped you connect with your community?
- Magnify has been a wonderful place for us create and share media which is
focused for our community and at the same time can be shared with the
world -- as is evidenced through "Orissa Burning" chosen for a film festival.
- Q. Why do you think video has been important to growing your community?
- Video is "being there" in a way that audio and visual alone don't allow. Bringing
the best of audio and visual together video is a medium that creates an invitation
to community. It is personal - one on one - and at the same time reaches a wide
audience. It can create community by its immediacy.
- Q. What would you share with others looking to embrace video as a communications medium.
- Thanks to Magnify, we have new medium on the web for all groups to build
community. The philosophy of Magnify is to build a democratic movement
for media as a space for invitation, knowledge, information and sharing.
Video allows the stories to be told; combined with the Internet the story is
available to everyone.
