Trip to SF - Day 1.

May 05, 2007 - Steve Rosenbaum
I'm in the Bay Area for the week... on a mix of things i can talk about and some things that are under wraps for now. But i'll do my best to blog what i can, and share glimpses into the world of video that is emerging in Silicon Valley.

First stop - Got to hang out with the cool guys at Cuts.com. If you haven't checked out their tools - you should. Cuts.com has some of the most intuitive and engaging on-line editing tools around. And the team is super smart. It's really staggering when you think back to just a few years ago when you need real heavy iron to do what Cuts is now doing in the cloud. Boy, i'm sure glad i sold my Avids back in the day.

firefox.jpg Next stop - Mozilla. As you probably know, we're about to launch FireFoxFlicks 2.0 with the kings of the browser jungle. Ok - why do i say that? Well, spend a few hours hanging out at FireFox Central and you'll know. Explorer is now playing catch up to FF, and Safari just doesn't seem to be on the top of Apples list. Fire Fox is fueled by the passion of hundreds (thousands) of passionate open source developers who are building what i think is the application platform for all web 2.0 companies. Heck -- we left convinced we need to build a FireFox toolbar add-in. Ok, another item to add to the roadmap. Anyone want to help? Asa Dotzler is our guy ... and we're really looking forward to throwing the doors wide open and letting the entire community in to start making, voting, and reviewing FireFox Flicks. Stay tuned!

Next stop Palo Alto - Lara Druyan at Allegis Capital has been a FOM since back in the early days. And now that we're picking up steam and starting to build a userbase... we want to make sure we stay in touch with friends like Lara. Allegis has an interesting portfolio of companies... and a pretty cool take on the UGV space. Check out their portfolio company IMVU (http://www.imvu.com) This is a digital goods company that is part Second Life and part Ebay. UGV eGoods - made by the community and sold to the community. Wow.

And finally - dinner in Los Altos with more of my favorite folks. Cory Treffiletti was deep inside Carrat/Fusion when i first met him and he was already writing a blog called UserGeneration. He's one of the few guys who knows the ad business and sees the future of user-generated media. He's a blast. To make the dinner a fun mix Ajay Chopra from Trinity Ventures and Scott Milener who runs BD for Magnify in San Francisco were on board. We debated media, the future, and who's buying and funding what. Ajay's fund is in photobucket - and those guys are doing amazing things in the UGV space.

So that's day one in valley. Tomorrow - secret stuff - and some stuff i can write about. We'll have to see how much i can say.
