Suprises - thanks - and beta .9
January 17, 2007 - Steve Rosenbaum
Today we launch beta .9
Whew. :)
It's really a birth, new tools, new features, new logo, new UI - with lots more coming. But the thing we're most proud of is that we've created a place to feature some of the real hero's in our world, folks who are doing amazing things with video on their sites.
They're our partners, they're our friends, and we're very proud to be working with them to build exceptional new partnerships in the emerging vertical video universe.
the process of building a service like magnify.net is intensely collaborative - and therefore full of head-bonking and hair pulling. Always nicely - of course.
So this is a good moment to send so love out to folks who have worked long hours to get us to this stage. Chris Foss is an an exceptional designer, with a strong sense of how to tell a story with pictures and words. You'll see his work in the warm and sophisticated new look, the openness and elegance of the pages, and the careful use of positioning of key
graphic elements. Our Marketing Maven Beth Temple was a huge fan of Chris' before this gig, and now so are we. He's a rare mix of flexibility and stubbornness - and that's made the process smooth and fun. Thanks Chris! You've forced us to make some tough design decisions - and i think Magnify.net users are going to be happier as a result. Then - thereare the guys at Gossamer Threads. Alex Krohn has been our partners over these past few months of breakneck growth, cheerfully adding servers and lending a hand to debug new services as we've added them. These guys are amazing - and if you're looking for a powerful but service oriented host - you can't go wrong.
Magnify.net has an extraordinary advisory board of industry smarty-pants. Alan Webber is the full time force behind the super-secret blue letter, but was also the Founding Editor of Fast Company. Toby Gabriner is the CEO of X+1 (and the former CEO of Carat Fusion), if anyone knows the ad biz, it's Toby. Andrew Blau is the author of The Future of Independent Content and the new Managing Director of Global Business Network. In Many ways, he saw the future more clearly than anyone we've ever met. And he pointed the way. Kim Garretson is our man in Minneapolis - a serial entrepreneur and the king of the new media rolodex. He was the Director of the Global Innovation Network at Best Buy - and he's been driving our outreach into publishing. Cory Treffiletti is the head of media at Real Branding, and you may know him from his spot-on blog posts on imediaconnections and his blog User-Generation. And of course, Ava Seave, the Quantum Media Guru who has been an adviser and more. We said 'smarty-pants' and you see what we mean. They've together been supportive, relentless, and charming. Much love.
In the weeks ahead we're going to have some pretty big news. Shsssh, it's a secret for now.
But suffice it to say that we're going to turn the lens around - and see what we feels like to be Magnified!
So, until the - our thanks - one and all -
The Magnify.net Team
