Well, PodCamp NYC '07 was quite a shindig! The world 'community' gets thrown around a good bit these days - but you can't help but full like the NY Podcasting community is alive and well after hanging out with 1,300 PodCampers at the New Yorker Hotel. The day started at 7am - and Chris Brogan was there, in a top hat and cape to bring the good mojo of the Boston PodCamp to NYC. Brogan, who co-founded PodCamp - is now working on Jeff Pulver's Network2
The Magnify.net booth was set up in no time, and Network2's Chris Brogan needed some Velcro (seems his cape was strangling him). I couldn't help but ask - as a former magician - what the purpose of the cape and top hat was. "Everyone here is a superhero" Brogan replied. Ok - it's early in the morning but that's a pretty good answer. Heck, i want a red cape too...
My son Max was brave enough to get up at 6am on Saturday to help us get the booth set up, and Chris Brogan snapped this photo.
By 3pm, it was time for my un-panel - with the always engaging Shelly Palmer of Media 3.0
Shelly and I were supposed to debate the future of media for PodCasters - but we found out pretty quickly that we both share the same crystal ball. We pretty much see RSS and key - and the connection between the computer and the living room as the future. In fact - when i suggested that RSS was a way to connect content to devices, Shelly agreed. But, just to keep things interesting - i to a stab at the world of network TV (from which Shelly and I both once sat as Governors on the NY NATAS board). Sadly, Shelly didn't take the bait (it wasn't very subtle - i admin) and we ended up agreeing on everything, including not to debate the relative merits of TV.
Overall - PodCamp was an amazing day - tons of fun - and made some great new friends.
Can't wait till next year.
