SF Day 3

May 05, 2007 - Steve Rosenbaum
I've been staying at the Palomar, at the corner of 4th and Market. It's a Kimpton Hotel and it's kind of a nice mix of boutique and service. The room has wi-fi (which i now find I basically can't live without) and the staff is chill. I like it here. I also like that priceline found it for 80$ a night. For some reason San Francisco always seems to be able to deliver a 4 star hotel for $80 if you use priceline. It's a bit of a crap shoot - but heck, it saves a ton of money if you're willing to be flexible.

After breakfast with Scott at "The 5th Floor" - which was very nice, it's off to the Valley. The morning was up and down a stretch of road that is familiar to all entrepreneurs in the tech world. Hmm... i wonder where in the world steve is going next? Here's a hint:

ok, that's not much of a hint.

But i can't say a whole lot more.

By the time we were done, we had to hightail it back to the city for the New Tech Meetup. Myles Wei... [More]

SF Day 2

May 05, 2007 - Steve Rosenbaum
The day started with a Venture firm we've been talking to. I'm not going to list them here, because - well - because you just don't. But i will start a bit of a contest. It's called "where in the world is Steve". And when i can - i'll shoot a photo out a window. Of course, nothing too obvious - that would ruin the puzzle. So, here's where i am this morning. DSC00372.JPG Great View! That's a clue enough. Anyway - lunch was with Scott and I and Tod Sacerdoti of Brightroll. There is so much brainpower going into figure out video ads on the web, and Todd is one of the smartest guys i've met. Tod went to both Stanford and Yale (MBA, BA Economcis) - and he's got very analytical take on space. Always good to hear his point of view. After lunch - more Venture folks... no photo here so you'll have to just take a wild guess.

And then an hour with Eric Auchard at Reuters. Eric has been covering tech for more than 12 years - both in NY and SF - s... [More]

Trip to SF - Day 1.

May 05, 2007 - Steve Rosenbaum
I'm in the Bay Area for the week... on a mix of things i can talk about and some things that are under wraps for now. But i'll do my best to blog what i can, and share glimpses into the world of video that is emerging in Silicon Valley.

First stop - Got to hang out with the cool guys at Cuts.com. If you haven't checked out their tools - you should. Cuts.com has some of the most intuitive and engaging on-line editing tools around. And the team is super smart. It's really staggering when you think back to just a few years ago when you need real heavy iron to do what Cuts is now doing in the cloud. Boy, i'm sure glad i sold my Avids back in the day.

firefox.jpg Next stop - Mozilla. As you probably know, we're about to launch FireFoxFlicks 2.0 with the kings of the browser jungle. Ok - why do i say that? Well, spend a few hours hanging out at FireFox Central and you'll know. Explorer is now playing catch up to FF, and Safari just doesn't seem to be on the top of Apples list. Fire ... [More]
