Magnify.net Blog For September 2006
September 30, 2006 - Steve Rosenbaum
So, as you requested - the Magnify Player Widget is now built in flash. That means you can put it on your site, your blog, even your myspace page - and then pick the playlist you want to share with the widget. We've got a rock solid iFrame Widget and a JavaScript version - but before we unleash the Flash Widget to the world, we'd like a few of you to test it out in the real world. Interested - send a note to
Admin (at) Magnify.net. We'll whip up the flash code and send it back. Then, all you need to do is try and break it -- if it passes muster, we'll have it out next week.

Check out what's happening on
yousurftubes. The site has an amazing new logo. But that's just the half of it. The site was created by dcsmitty - but when fellow site member (and designer) chip checked out the site, he offered to design a header. Very cool thing to do. Check out his site chipotoole.com - he may find he's got a new sideline designing channels for site creators.

We're pleased to announce that starting today, Magnify.net site creators have a new way to share in the revenue generated by their site. (And additional revenue sharing options are in the development pipeline for future releases.)
The Revver Affiliate sharing features let you get paid for half of the syndication fee your site earns from advertising served by Revver. Unlike the Revver creator's share, this syndication credit is applicable to all Revver videos posted to your site, regardless of who created them. (Plus, you'll still earn your Revver creator's share for any videos you did create.)
To activate this features, sign up with Revver, and note down your Revver affiliate number. Then visit your site, log in, choose "Site Admin", "Account", and then "Change advertising options". Enter your account ID and it'll be used to earn you credit for half of all ads Revver delivers to your site.
Please take a look and let us know if you have any questions or suggestions...
Your feedback is appreciated.

For those of you who are watching the evolution of the platform - you may have noticed that 'Help' has been replaced with "FAQ" - This is our way of opening the community (and the Boards) to members and visitors who have questions, want to make comments, and provide knowledge to the community.

Thanks to great feedback from friends and visitors - we've pushed a new homepage today that has a ton of new elements exposed, and a new "Use-Case" functionality.
Check out the new site, the new info, and the new explantations for Bloggers, Sites, and Advertisers. And give us feedback!

If you've set up a Magnify site, you may have noticed that the auto-post feature of the Magnify Meta-Search wasn't finding many videos because the initial results were already posted. Well, the new code we've released today looks at more candidates in order to find and import fresh videos for your site.
If you haven't yet scheduled an auto-post search for your channels, now is a great time to add a few! Log in to your site, navigate to "Site Admin", then "Content", and click "Search for Videos". (Of course, you need to be an administrator for your channel site to do this; if you're not, set up your own site today and check it out.)

Magnify is built on the philosophy that people who create videos want to share their stories with other people -- but different creators approach the process of sharing in different ways.
Some video creators want to be paid for their work, such as those who sell videos through Google or earn ad shares through Revver, while others give their videos away for free, like those who post to YouTube. Likewise, some video creators strictly control uses of their video, while others allow people to copy or modify it. (And these distinctions are still being refined -- for example, Revver videos may be copied freely but the creators still get paid.)
Magnify embraces all of these distribution mechanisms, and looks forward to the others that will surely evolve in the years ahead.
